We are a small and nurturing group of Bennington, Vermont area writers open to other working writers. Our criteria is simple - be actively engaged in the craft of writing and willing to share both your writing and critique in a spirit of generosity.
We meet twice monthly on the second and fourth Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. near downtown Bennington. Meetings generally last two to three hours, depending on how much new material is presented. We have a snack and coffee, tea, etc during meetings and occasionally a bit more - we are inclined to celebration!
Most members are fiction writers in a variety of genres: fantasy, science fiction, mystery, detective, horror, and literary. Occasionally we review and critique, non-fiction, poetry and memoir. Our aim is to be community-based, open to both veteran writers and folks new to the art.
We have just a few rules: writers should read at least once every six weeks, and they should present their work in a professional manner; typed, double-spaced and with sufficient copies for others members to follow along and notate, generally 8 - 10 copies will suffice. A review of our By-Laws also may be helpful.
If you are interested in joining this merry band of scriveners, telephone or e-mail us. Be sure to review the critique guidelines and bear in mind the basics of respectful behavior and courtesy.
You are welcome to attend up to four meeting prior to joining. We require a yearly non-refundable membership fee of $30.00. This fee is payable upon joining, and will be due yearly as follows:
If you join between May and October, the yearly membership fee is due in August.
If you join between November and April, th yearly membership fee is due in February.
